I return to Sacramento as of August 29th. I will no longer be a "volunteer" for the US Government. I will no longer reside in a beautiful tropical oasis.

Now the REAL QUESTION (after I figure out where my first return meal will be) is....does anyone have any job leads they might think I would be interested in?

Hey friends!!

I realize that some of you may already know this, but I just wanted to send out another announcement to inform you all that I will be home for a visit soon! I arrive in Sacramento late on December the 18th and leave late January the 4th.

I can be reached at 916-421-7740, however this is my HOME NUMBER and I ask that you PLEASE do not call it after about 9:30pm. My parents are early sleepers and early workers, and I don't want to disturb them with phone calls. I think once I get home I can borrow my brother or parents' cell, so I will work on getting that number out to you when I know the plan.

I (with the help of a few people) am trying to work on coordinating a trip to Fresno at some point. If you are a SoCal friend, this might be a chance to meet up without having to drive the full 400+ miles.

Please email or call me to let me know when you're around and when you want to hang out!!!

Feel free to forward this to other persons that might be interested. I don't have every one's email address, so this was the best I could do with what I have.

Looking forward to lots of friends and food,

Megan

Hello all!

Well, its about 6pm here on Friday afternoon and we are safe and sound. The storm passed early this morning, but we are still on house arrest until tomorrow likely. It sounds like Soufriere (my town) is mostly safe with only a few downed trees, but rumor (meaning Larry in Southern California) says that there have been three deaths in Saint Lucia due to the storm. I am unsure about major destruction around the island, or on the island of Martinique. As far as I know, only downed trees, missing roofs, and a few small land slides have lead to minimal road closures, but otherwise no serious damage. We are expected to head to our own homes/apartments tomorrow.

Thank you to everyone who emailed, and especially to my parents and Larry who gave me calls. We are all safe and sound and waiting for the okay to depart the safe house.

I love and miss you all! Talk to you soon!!

Hello everyone!!!

Well, Hurricane Dean is on its way to Martinique, an island that is less than 30 miles to the north of me. It is set to hit Barbados (to the east) at about 4am, and Martinique at about 2pm on Friday, then heading westward for the Caribbean Sea. We are only supposed to get a bit of the tail of the storm. As of 5pm tonight (Thursday) Peace Corps is requiring that all the PCVs here consolidate into our safe-houses, meaning that myself and three other volunteers are moving into Megan Hawks' house (a 2 minute walk from my house) for an undetermined amount of time. Her house is fully stocked with canned goods and all the other important emergency supplies. We are assisting by supplementing the bottles of rum and movie projector to pass the time. I should have internet and phone unless the storm knocks it all out, so feel free to email or call me (758-285-5127) if you feel up to it. We are not expecting anything more than a large rain storm here in Saint Lucia, but if Dean shifts just a little bit southward it will be headed right for my pretty little island. I will try to keep you all updated on the details, especially if I end up being evacuated to another location (Washington DC? Paul, Michael, and Jenn, I would fully expect to see you if this is the case!!!). John (the boyfriend) and my new kitten will be holding down the fort at my apartment for the time being, so hopefully everything will be okay there. My actual main worry is that with a lot of rain, the river running in front of my house will flood...but whats the harm in a little water?

Anyways, I wanted to send you all my love and let you know what is going on in my neck of the woods. Thus far I am alive and well, with a sunny sky over my head.

I love and miss you all!!! Hugs to everyone!!!

Megan
